February 14, 1985 - July 21, 2005.

Lortab joins the channel. In less than 2 minutes, he pastes my idle time. At 12:20:16 a.m., he said "Neal has been idle 89rs 12mins 2secs, signed on Thu Jun 23 08:54:39." What that meant was, I had not said a word on that network for 89 hours. It was in the tradition of that network that those who do not chat much are "lurkers" and tend to not be well respected. Well, when he said that, my mIRC beeped, I was at the computer, and the channel name highlighted a green color. I heard the noise, and looked for where my name is called, and responded to him. You can see that when my name is said in text, the entire line of the text is red, so it makes it faster for me to look. He would make me an "operator" in the room, and I would give him the "<3" sign. This just showed that he didn't judge me by my idle time. Of course, the channel name was #love. Apparently, he recognized my nick from another network.

Well, I missed him, in the sense that I won’t see him anymore. He committed suicide. Shot himself in the head. That was the only screenshot I had of him! I intend to keep. There was a funeral held in his hometown of Texas. He was 20.

The next death I came across to my surprise was a person I knew more personally. His name was Matthew. Coincidentally, I last spoke to him on June 26, 2005, at the 7 o' clock hour at night. Our first main private message conversation started on the night of January 1 to Janary 2, 2005. I was trying to help a user in a public chat, and I wanted to paste to him a paragraph of text from an official website, but I accidentally copied the entire page and pasted the entire page. For that reason, I was booted out by a chatroom operator. Matthew was "staff" of the chat, but not an operator. Before he told me he added me to his personal chat, #Matthew, and smiled, and I said thanks.

Well, now he has passed away, and leaves behind a 6 year old daughter, Chastity. His body had already been cremated when I found out and a donation has been made, named after his daughter. Matthew Mayhaus died of pneumonia on July 27th, 2005, after a long and hard battle.
